Mineral glass lenses obtain the same effect as plastics with a lower center / edge thickness.

Mineral lenses offer the highest index - for a thinner and more cosmetic lens in all powers, available in 1.5 - 1.9 index. Refractive indexes higher than n=1.74 cannot be achieved with plastic lenses.
